Want a good glass of water? C’mon over!
Reader’s Digest recently published its list of the 50 largest metro areas in the US with the highest water quality…and yes Sacramento was one of the few that scored a perfect 50 points!! The good ole’ American River does it again. Unfortunately we didn’t do very well in air (4 out of 50, don’t laugh!) and sanitation (24/50).
Curious about your water? Check out this interactive map.
This got me to thinking about Erin’s post and her desire to help provide water for people in Africa and to help raise money to dig a well.
Way to go Erin!
Isn’t amazing how we take our clean water for granted (in most of all the US). I can get up and walk to my tap and some of the cleaniest water in the country will come right out of the tap (really?, really.)…my children have no idea what it means to have to walk for miles just to get water, not to mention food.
So I’m trying to figure out how I can bring awareness to my part of the world and not continue to take this gift for granted. I’m thinking Erin is on to something.
If you really want to be inspired, read about Ryan a 14 year old boy who’s helped to raise over a million dollars (since 1998) to dig wells in 10 different countries (he’s helped to support nearly 200 wells)!!

I can’t tell you how excieted I am to see your post! I feel like i’ve transitioned into this state where I can’t be moved about a cause and not do anything about it.
What a neat way to present it– connecting how clean our water is (and how we take it for granted–so many of us purifying our water futher with Brita pitchers) and then linking to efforts to help others (who’s water prolly wouldnt even rank positivly on the Readers’s Digest scale.)
Thanks!

Can’t tell you how wild it was to come across this info, just after reading your post…too cool!
I hear ya…my Christmas expereince was the same…It was an loud internal MUST…DO…SOMETHING!
It’s funny, clean water is good to have…but I wonder if we obsess over it…especially now, here in Sac…is it good enough, with out the Bria or whatever…should I take the money I might spend on bottle H2O or a filter, etc and send it to Ryan and support a well…?
Thank you!
