Does Web 2.0 = Church 2.0

My main occupation is in education and I’m currently reading and reflecting on just exactly what and why is Web 2.0. Tim O’Reilly of O’Reilly Media is working on a reading list and ideas about what, exactly, is Web 2.0 and how will the continued growth and expansion of the web effect business and education and, well actually, life.

You can read the article here discussing the beginning of defining and conceptualizing Web 2.0.

The age we live in is amazing. As many of us have written and shared we are in a stage of information and technological development like none other. As I write that it seems like such an understatement; yet completely true.

Consider these:

Harnessing Collective Intelligence

open source software

“folksonomy” - the process of tagging information so searches are more overlapping and organic

An Architecture of Participation-this is why Amazon, Google, Napster, are so successsful.  The fact that organizations like these have realized that “Users add value”…and each person brings a new dimension to the process and their systems gets better the more people use it.
And blogging, I don’t think many of us realize how significant this process is… not only in building links, posting threads or developing community but in actually transforming the information and processes that are replacing the prior foundations of our civilization.

RSS feeds to control the flow of not just information, but relevant (to me, what I want/need to know about) and CURRENT (up to the second) information. O’Reily goes on to talk about the significance of the Permalink and how it is leading (in combo with everything else) to the development of a “collective intellegence” and the harnessing of that intellegence.

As you read O’Reilly’s article I’m sure you’ll see the implications for us — one’s who MUST– one’s who must live out a Kingdom call and live our lives following Jesus. The way we do things is radically changing right under our noses. We have a huge opportunity, just by being here, now, reading this or responding to it.

The world is changing. Can you hear it?
