14 years, 309 days…and counting
Today I celebrate with my wonderful wife, Lizette, 14 years of marriage. Why the 309 days?
We met on the 17th of Septemebr (which, btw, would be the birthdate of our first born 4 years later…), so in 57 days we will have know each other for 15 years.
Time flies. We’ve learned a tremendous amount about each other and have grown together in innumerable ways, here’s just a short list:
- toothpaste tubes (and caps) are just not that important
- dogs really do need their own bed for sleeping
- one can change diapers and not really wake up
- never underestimate the power and healing quality of laugher (especially towards one’s self)
- tomatoe plants need flowers to produce fruit
- powder sugar is NOT a good substitute for flour
- giving birth is really hard work…especially for the father
- there is some benefit to getting married before meeting the entire family/friend network
- God is bigger than any “nay-sayer” (14 years sort of proves this, don’t cha think!?!)
- finishing another’s sentence is a natural progression from sharing coffee cups
- its OK to let the other drive sometimes (even if you get a little nervous while he’s doing it)
- maximizer is not a “horse” you ride all the time…
- little boys can be very liberating (especially when one is in his 30’s)
- mother-in-laws are saints
- be sure to wear sunscreen on your honeymoon!
7 years later at the same tree we got married under…with our two friends (Chris and Lori) who introduced us.

Congratulations to the two of you! Most of the “learnings” I understood, some may require additional explanation. Thank you, both, for being such a great example of what a marriage should be.
Can’t wait to see you!
Love your sis and sister-in-law,
Michelle

Congratulations! Love your insights. It made me think of Sam and I approaching 2 years and wondering what I would put on my list! Here’s to more years of growing and learning and having fun.

Congratulations! I loved the list too…I’ve realized you can change diapers in your sleep! ha ha!
I was wondering if sometime you could introduce us to your team…I’ve “met” Sue, Heath, and Cindy, anyone else a part of Vox Sacramento?

He leaves sometime tomorrow, gets back here Friday. I told Heath too, but not sure what his schedule is this time…he’s doing a lot of meetings. But work sends him there every couple of months.
