VOX…making an Impact

One of the VOX Catalysts, Kimberly Boyd, decided to look for possible artists at the Labor Day “Chalk It Up event in Fremont Park. As she toured she was praying and looking specifically for artists she felt to be aligned with the vision and atmosphere of VOX. She found three.

Here’s the story in her words:

“I passed by MANY artists and nothing really grabbed at me. I spoke to 3 artists out of 75 or so……I came to Mercy second and she was sitting on the sidewalk working on her piece…she was creating the eye of the face and, honestly it was something about HER (her essence) that made me stop….she seemed so a part of what she was doing….the piece and Mercy did not seem separate….I knelt beside her and introduced myself to her. Told her about VOX and asked if she would be interested in showing. She said sure, gave me her number and I assured her I would call her.

A few weeks later I gave her a call. Left a message and that night I was out to dinner with Cindy…a call came in that I didn’t recognize (it wasn’t the number I had called her on) and Cindy encouraged me to take the call. I did, and it was Mercy on the other end. (This was on a Friday)…Mercy and I talked for a few minutes, she said yes to showing, we said we’d be in contact that weekend about scheduling a time. That Saturday I called her, left a message. On that Sunday, I was leaving church and Patti Huizar came up to me and asked, “did you talk to someone at ‘Chalk it Up’ about some art work” my thought was, “how the heck did you know” I said yes I had. She then asked the artists name. I simply replied, “Mercy Hawkins, I am awaiting her call today…” Patti responded, “Do you know her parents?” I of course didn’t and said no. Patti continued, “well, they go to Rest Life and Mercy is here in the Lobby.” I would have fallen out of my chair had I been sitting in one!!!!

I went out to the lobby and there was Mercy; we greeted and talked about what an amazing thing that just happened!! I then fully realized the awesomeness of God’s divine plan and how beautiful He is to draw us close and He truly is in control!!!

Mercy has soooo inspired me and God has richly and deeply blessed me by introducing me to such a beautiful soul.”

Mercy did show her art at the October VOX Party. She and Kim continue to make plans for the next one in November.

niza, it’s been so amazing watching how God is moving through our group…more is happening. Kim and Mercy have enlisted 10 or so people from Mercy’s art classes to participate in a painting project. They’re all getting together to paint squares that will be assembled into a huge 4 by 8 foot mural for the next VOX party…plus photographers, some poets…wow…

sam, wonderfully well!! As you can read… I will be in Orlando…bringing Heath with me too!! Look forward to seeing you and Rachel there!
